William Henzell has just won the Australian Open for the 4th time against Justin Han of NSW in an all Aussie Table Tennis-player Mens Singles final at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre.
The result was 4-1. Incredibly, the one game conceeded to Justin in the final was the only game William dropped in the individual mens Singles draw. Similarly, in the Team event William lost only one game in all of his singles matches.
Justin came back in his semi-final against Simon Gerada of Victoria in a 7-game marathon. After being 8-4 down in the 7th game Justin came back and won 7 points in a row to win his semi-final.
Congratulations to both William and Justin!
This is a great result for William Henzell. No other Australian-born player has ever won 4 Open Mens singles titles before. Add to this 6 Australian Closed Singles titles (a record) and with William still only 27 years old, we all wonder how many more Aussie titles he can take in the future.
In the womens Final, Jian Fang Lay defeated fellow Victorian Miao Miao to take the Womens singles crown.
